Touch: The Response from HTC to Apple iPhone

Announced long as rumor, Taiwanese HTC has formalized the release of his next PDAPhone Windows Mobile 6 called “HTC Touch”. And surprise, within one month of the release of the Apple iPhone in the U.S., HTC has copied his principle manipulable touchscreen … a finger without using a pen.

The “HTC P3450” code name “Elf” has a “form factor” monoblock with dimensions of 58 x 108 x 14 mm and weighs 110 grams. Equipped with Windows Mobile 6 Pro system, the terminal incorporates a Texas Instruments OMAP 850 processor running at 201 Mhz, 128 MB ROM, 64 MB RAM, a 1200 mAh battery, all in more than one screen Touch with a size of 2.8 inches. It also has a SIM slot on the side of the terminal, as was the case for the HTC S710.

The HTC Touch has more dual Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi 802.11b / g connectivity, Mini and Micro USB port and a digital camera of 2 Megapixels. Quadband GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), the HTC Touch is also GPRS and EDGE.

Not compatible with 3G networks, however, the new HTC innovates by the presence of a new called “TouchFLO” software suite that allows full control of the … finger (and thus no need for a stylus) like the Apple iPhone. To do this, HTC has developed a suite of tools for managing the touch side of the terminal in two ways: by dragging a finger from one direction to the other (to lock the terminal to return to the previous page or to scroll) or by clicking virtually. Everything is very easy to handle and actually quite natural.

Finally, widgets (world clock, weather, RSS feeds) were placed on the home page for the smartphone to add new menus aesthetically very successful, allowing the next player to compete communicating Apple iPhone to be released June 29 United States. The “HTC Touch” should be launched (in black) in mid-June in Europe for a suggested retail price of 449 euros. It will come with a Micro SD card 1 GB

With its aggressive selling price, it should also be offered quickly with operator subsidies in France for a price of around 99 euros. Scheduled to be available from other in Orange, will be the first terminal of the brand not to be sold via the line “SPV” operator as announced Yves Maitre, VP of devices at Orange.
